Endings and Beginnings

so the year has finished.  i’m now teaching summer school and “loving” it.  well, not so much loving it as getting by and being happy I’m getting paid decently for it.  LJ and I are two weeks away from our second baby.  zoe is 2 weeks away from being hit with a cold bucket of “you are not the center of the universe”.  very interested to see how that plays out.

i’ve started working on the landscaping of our new house.  i don’t really care that it’s just me working on the whole yard with just a shovel.  it’s nice to set the fruits of your labor at the end of the day…not something you get too often as a teacher.

well i knew that moving back to the US would be an adjustment and there would be some new things that i’d be exposed to.  since by birthday just passed, i thought it would be fitting to put together a preliminary “firsts” list for this past year:

20 Firsts for me this past year:

1. lived in a trailer
2. bought a house
3. taught kids who honestly didn’t care if they passed
4. taught kids with beards
5. joined a co-ed softball team
6. hit a homerun in softball
7. bought a car
8. bought a sledgehammer (awesome!)
9. grilled in my own backyard
10. failed students without backlash from admin/parents
11. coached my volleyball team to state
12. played roulette (and won $100)
13. went to vegas
14. learned what 4H means (there are some country folk in the southwest)
15. played cornhole (awesome game…believe me)
16. broke down on the side of the highway and had to be towed
17. attended a 10 year high school reunion
18.  taught chemistry (i think “blech!” is the term)
19. checked IDs at the door at a concert
20. attended a MMA fight (Desert Xtreme oh yeah)

well, that’s it for my first entry on this new blog.  lj and i will be sharing the entries.  i’m guessing i’ll be more involved during the summer and then slip away into my hermit cave again once school starts in august.  i’ll try not to, but as we all know, history does tend to repeat itself.

adios amigos

  1. yeS!! Evan’s’s are on wordpress. I look forward to the updates. blog roll? where’s our link?

ha. Hey, glad things are working out in the usa. your list of firsts sounds enticingly homegrown and normal – softball, barbqueing, yardwork…there are days I think there’s nothing I’d rather have more. except substitute out the softball for something more manly.

cheers. congrats on the wonderful new daughter – I told kaiser, who’s beside me as I type this in cloudy, cold Plymouth.

  2. And to think I had given up on the Evans blogging! I just looked at your old blogs this week to see if there was an update…but I did enjoy the year old memories from Korea.
